We are FIRST® Robotics Competition Team 5511: Cortechs Robotics, a community robotics team located in Southwest Wake County, North Carolina. The Cortechs community has been going strong for ten years as we continue to grow and inspire STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) in the community. Our team family has been pulled from all places across the county, contributing to a wide distribution of aspiring engineers, business leaders, and students skilled in community operations.
FIRST® (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is a non-profit organization designed to inspire young people’s interest and participation in science and technology, and to motivate them to pursue education and career opportunities in the STEM fields. Cortechs Robotics is a tenth-year FIRST® Robotics Competition team, founded in late 2014.
In our rookie year, we attended the North Carolina off-season event THOR, competing at the 2015 North Carolina Regional Competition, and moving on to the World Championship in St. Louis.
In our second year, we won the THOR offseason event, the FNC District Guilford Event, and qualified for the FNC District Championship.
In 2017, we won the FNC District UNC Asheville Event and qualified for the FIRST Championship in Houston, where our previous captain Sreekar Mantena won the Dean’s List Award.
We won the FNC District Wake County Event in 2019 and were Finalists in the UNC Pembroke Event and FNC District Championship, qualifying us for the FIRST Championship again. At the World Championship in 2019, we made it to the playoffs.
In 2020, we won the Wake County Event again with an undefeated season before our season was cut short by COVID-19. We were District Chairman’s Award Winners, Infinite Recharge At Home Quality Award Winners, and we also won THOR during the offseason.
During the 2022 season, we saw a return to in-person competitions in what was for most of our members their first full season. We were awarded the District Chairman's Award again at the FNC District ECU Event.
Recently in October 2022, we attended THOR once again and helped test out a new playoff double elimination system FIRST is looking to implement.
Part of the Cortechs mission is to inspire STEM in the community. We spend extensive time and resources on starting and mentoring FIRST LEGO League teams, running STEM programs (which include activities through STEM fairs and mobile workshops), and inspiring our community's interest in what we do, through robot demonstrations and online events.
Unfortunately, we are not able to host in person meetings at the time. If you have any questions, please let us know via email. Thank you!
